MELROSE — For their 2019 Spring Pops concert on Saturday, June 1, Polymnia Choral Society will celebrate the Beatles, featuring the album REVOLVER in its entirety, including unforgettable songs such as “Yellow Submarine,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Taxman,” “Good Day Sunshine,” and others. It promises to be another exciting, “don’t miss” Pops concert, at Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street, Melrose, at 7:30 p.m.

Polymnia is pleased to welcome guest performer Jimmy Pou, celebrated George Harrison tribute musician. Portraying George Harrison, Jimmy toured the world as a member of the cast of Beatlemania from 1977–1983. In 1990s, Jimmy played in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall and The Red Rocks Amphitheatre with the #1 Beatles Tribute band “1964: The Tribute.” He returned to Beatlemania Now in 2008, and then played with other former Beatlemania members in the successful Broadway show “Rain – A Tribute to the Beatles,” which was praised as “The Most Renowned Beatles Tribute in the World.” Jimmy has also created his own solo tribute called “An Evening with George.” Currently, Jimmy is touring the world in a show that he founded called “4 Lads from Liverpool” and is enjoying huge success.

The Beatles were not only musical trendsetters, they represented a significant shift in the post-Beat culture and contributed significantly to the musical style of the 1960s–’70s era. REVOLVER, released in 1966, was the Beatles’ seventh and final album before they retired from touring and their most ambitious in terms of blended musical styles and experimental sound engineering. The album features pioneering production techniques that were, and still are, educational for musicians.

REVOLVER is a significant album that heralded change in musical production and sound, setting the bar for fellow musicians and sound engineers. The outstanding Beatles signature style on the music is reflected in the name of the album itself; REVOLVER does not refer to guns of any kind, but to the revolving nature of much of the state-of-the-art studio technology: the increased and varied use of tape loops, recordings played backward, varispeeding, automatic double tracking, and the unusual (at that time) use of classical strings, and Indian sitar music.

This production is anticipated to be an exciting, showy concert that entire families will enjoy together. The festive atmosphere, with decorations and pops-style table seating, will leave plenty of room for the audience to dance and the audience will be encouraged to sing along. Drinks and snacks will be available and there will be raffles for baskets of prizes will be raffled.

Polymnia, a not-for-profit organization, is supported in part by grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and by the Melrose and the Wakefield Cultural Councils, local agencies funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council; also by the Melrose Messina Fund for the Arts, Melrose Bank Foundation, Melrose Rotary, and The Savings Bank in Wakefield.

As is traditional for the Spring Pops concert, there will be table seating available (limited) for this dynamic and lively show at $30 per ticket. Auditorium seating is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $15 for students, and $5 for children under 12. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.polymnia.org or at Miter Biter Frame Company, 479 Main Street, Melrose. Tickets will also be available at the door.
