MELROSE—The Red Raider outdoor track team competed in their final dual meet of the season with a home meet against league champ Burlington. Melrose fell to the Red Devils, but not without admirable efforts from Liam Rittenburg, who continues to dominate in the 400 hurdles. Jerry Murphy also was ahead of the pack in the 2 mile and junior Charlie Demayo took the 1 mile at 4:59. 

The team also competed at the Andover Boosters Invitational on Saturday at Andover High with solid results from a number of athletes. Liam Rittenburg placed 4th overall among 32 teams in the 400 hurdles at a time of 59.88 and 16th in the high jump, while Jerry Murphy ran his best time of the season in 2 mile at 10:25.

Jon Fortier was solid in the shot put with a 10th place finish. And Melrose showed promise in the Freshman/Sophomore race with frosh Matt Fox running a 5:02.46 in the one mile. Teammate Will Dugan ran a 5:14 in the race and in the triple jump, Kojee Khang placed a strong 8th and Melrose’s Jack Parella jumped a 31.07. 

The teams will prepare for the 2019 Middlesex League Championship which will be held at Burlington High on Thursday, May 16 (post deadline). 

Those competing in events include: Colin Bakey in the 400m, Tom Bergin in the 200m, Alex Brincherio in the high jump, triple jump and in the 4×100 m relay, Ryan Cotugno in the 400 meter and 4×800, Charles Demayo in the 1 mile and 4×800, Micye Duntin in the 100m and 4×100, Jon Fortier in the shot put, Matt Fox in the 1 mile and 4×800, Fabrice Francois in the 200, long jump and 4×100, Jesse Gardener in the high jump, long jump and 4×100, Bennett Kraunelis in the discus, Devin McDaid in the javelin and 4×100, Gabriel Monzon in the 400m, Jerry Murphy in the 2 mile and 4×800, Jack O’Hara in the 800m, 4×800 and 4×100, Jack Parella in the triple jump, Liam Rittenburg in the 400, high jump, 4×800 and 4×100, Dan Urchuck in the shot put and Josh Ventura in the javelin.
