4-0 Melrose starts Freedom League play this week

MELROSE—The Melrose High girl’s volleyball team remains undefeated following a 3-1 victory over Belmont on the road on Thursday, Sept. 12 at Belmont High. At 4-0, Melrose looks like team to beat in the Middlesex League and beyond. 

Melrose senior captain Emma Randolph led in scoring with a big 17 kills, helping the Lady Raiders defeat the Marauders in sets of 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, and 25-23. Also providing punch in attacks were senior captain Erin Torpey with ten kills and freshmen Chloe Gentile with nine kills. 

Junior setter Eva Haralabatos had 27 assists and Nicole Abbott 25 digs. Melrose also enjoyed solid serving from Emma Randolph, Haralabatos and Mary Kate Mahoney. 

Melrose, at 4-0, has enjoyed generous ranking that has the team ranked within the top 10 and top 5 teams in the state and division.  

Looking ahead, Melrose has two Freedom League contests on the horizon with Stoneham coming to on (Wednesday, post deadline) and a road trip to Watertown on Friday, Sept. 20. 

Melrose faces old rival Arlington Catholic on Monday, Sept. 23 at home.
