This is an extremely active election season in the city, and those who are running for office have raised some excellent points about our role in it.

To clarify: The Weekly News will accept a statement of candidacy from each office hopeful, most of which have already been published along with the candidate’s photograph. We will also publish three Forum letters from the candidates on any municipal-oriented subject or subjects they desire from now until the September primary.

We also welcome Forum letters from supporters. We will publish as many as we can through the summer. There is no limit on the number of letters per candidate, but we will only accept one letter per supporter. If you like more than one candidate, we will allow one letter each.

At some point, we will highlight the races for mayor, the soon-to-be City Council and School Committee.

That is what we are doing from an editorial standpoint. If a candidate wishes to publicize some sort of campaign event or anything not related to municipal affairs, we consider that political advertising. In that case, candidates or their organizations should contact Chris Ellison at ads@wakefielditem.com.

Thank you for understanding, and good luck.
