WAKEFIELD — Mrs. Arline H. (Bibeau) Avery, 101, and longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center of Stoneham on Thursday, February 8, 2018.

Born on December 29, 1916 in Cambridge, Arline was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Lillian F. (Hendrick) Bibeau. A native of Cambridge, Arline graduated from Cambridge Latin High School. Growing up, she enjoyed visiting her grandparents summer cottage in Lafayette in Rhode Island. Arline was married to Walter M. Avery on August 6, 1940 and they lived in Cambridge where they started a family before settling in Wakefield to raise three children.

Arline was a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother. Her life was based on two simple needs: her family, and her faith. Much like many mothers of her generation, she centered her life around the lives of her children, and husband. In a strong yet quiet way, she provided a loving and supportive foundation for her family to grow. She was a kind and steady presence in her children’s lives and loved square dancing with her husband.

Arline was a longtime member of the Faith Evangelical Church where she attended Bible study regularly. At home, Arline was most comfortable. She lived in the same house in Wakefield for over 60 years, and was happy at home gardening, knitting, sewing or playing the piano. She loved music, especially classical, which she passed along to her children. On summer weekends, she enjoyed visiting her daughter’s cottage on Alton Bay in New Hampshire, relaxing on the porch with her family.

Arline will be remembered for her sweet, humble and respectful nature, her quiet strength, and her dedication to family. She will be deeply missed.

Arline was the beloved wife of the late Walter M. Avery with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Alan W. Apakian of Wakefield, Judith A. Avery of Wakefield, and David C. Avery and his wife Susan of Francestown, N.H. Cherished grandmother of Kevin L. Avery and his wife Heather MacLean of Tyngsboro, and Glenn W. Avery and his wife Sonya of Manchester, N.H.
