MELROSE — Angela C. (Cimino) Ross, 97, of Melrose, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center in Stoneham on January 16, 2020.

She was the beloved wife of 66 years to the late Robert E. Ross Sr., U.S. Navy retired, and the cherished daughter of the late Dominic and Theresa Cimino of Malden. She is survived by her siblings, Doris Cimino of North Reading and Joseph Cimino and his wife Janet, also of North Reading.

Treasuring her memory are her children, Lucille I. Bates and her husband Robert of Medford and Robert E. Ross Jr. and his wife Sandra of Boxford. She was the proud grandmother of Ronald Vining, Steven Ross and his wife Riddhi, and Kaleigh Ross. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Angela was born and raised in Malden. After graduating from Malden Catholic High School she worked for the Navy as a Clerk Typist at the Chelsea shipyards during WWII. While working there, she found the love of her life and her future husband, a Navy sailor awaiting departure for combat aboard a destroyer heading for the Pacific. After the war ended, they were married at the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden on January 13, 1946.

As the wife of a career Navy sailor, she generally accompanied her late husband as he was assigned on various deployments over the next 30 years. During this period, they had two children and relocated a total of 13 times, including two 3-year deployments in Iceland and England. Angela’s passion to travel as a family unit fit well with the many Navy deployments and the family enjoyed their trips to multiple European and U.S. destinations.

After 30 years as a Navy wife, Angela and the family settled in Melrose. As the children grew older, Angela worked for many years at the Automatic Radio Company in Melrose, and later worked at the Bank of America senior work program in Malden. In her spare time, she was a prolific gardener and spent most summer days tending her vegetable garden and flower beds. She also loved cooking and sewing, and she tried to end each day with a good book to read. Most of all she loved the times spent with her nearby siblings, family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, January 22. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Funeral services and interment were private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Angela’s name to Mystic Valley Elder Services, 300 Commercial St., #19, Malden, MA 02148. To send a message of condolence please visit www.gatelyfh.com.
