MELROSE — Anthony “Tony” DeFlumeri, 88, of Melrose, passed away at the Courtyard Nursing Center in Medford on September 9, 2019.

Tony was born and raised in Mirabella, Italy and came to America in 1947. He resided in East Boston for over 35 years and the past 35 years in Melrose. Anthony was a caring, humble man with a big heart, who never wanted recognition and enjoyed exercising. He owned an apple orchard in Maine and loved to spend his winters in Florida.

Anthony’s family, grandchildren and many friends were the most important part of his life. He was the beloved husband of Geraldina (Cataldo) DeFlumeri for over 50 years. Devoted son of the late Raffaele and Antonina (Sorrentino) DeFlumeri. Loving father of Rose Totino and her husband Robert, Diana Tauro and her husband Paul, all of Melrose and Denise DeFlumeri Potenza and her husband Michele Potenza of Somerville. Cherished and loved Nonno of Alexia, Alec, Isabella, Sofia, Mattias and Nathalie. Caring brother of the late Richard DeFlumeri. Son-in-law of the late Alessio and Adelina Cataldo. Brother- in-law of Giovanni Cataldo and his wife Gabriella of Canada, Maria Barbanell and her late husband Frank of Melrose, Angelo Cataldo and his wife Caroline of Saugus, Carlo Cataldo and his wife Rosetta, Lorella Cataldo, all of Italy and the late Pasquale Cataldo and his wife Antonella of Melrose. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, September 12. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, September 13 at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
