MELROSE — Arthur A. Sousa, 82, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died peacefully on December 30, 2018.

Arthur was born in Melrose on July 10, 1936 to the late Anthony and Elsie (Lopes) Sousa.  

Arthur was one of the original members of the MBTA Police Force and later joined the Boston Police Department. After retiring from the Boston Police, Arthur became a licensed horse trainer and trained his own horse at Suffolk Downs. Above all else, Arthur was a devoted family man who absolutely adored his wife. He was selfless, always taking care of everyone but himself. He loved his family and showed it every day.  

Arthur was the beloved husband of Angelina “Dolly” (DiMauro) Sousa of Melrose. Loving father of Arthur Sousa Jr. and his wife Donna of Troy, Maine, Rose Sousa-Grasso of Salisbury, and Anthony Sousa and his wife Reneé of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Kendra, Candace, Christopher, Anthony Jr., Deanna, and Michael. Proud great-grandfather of Kianna and Kiarra. Loving brother of Elsie Sousa, Anthony Sousa and his wife Maureen, Joseph Sousa and his wife Maria, and the late Mary Levasseur. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
