MELROSE — Charles W. Murdock, 92, passed away at the Dexter House Health Care in Malden on January 3, 2019.

Charlie was born in Scotland on October 28, 1926 to the late James and Mary (McCullock) Murdock and arrived in Boston on May 1, 1927. He was raised in Roslindale, lived in Roslindale for many years. Mr. Murdock left school to join the U.S. Army during WWII and served his country with pride.

After his discharge from the service, Charlie went to the Peterson’s School of Steam Engineering in Framingham and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts School of Power Plant Engineering. Mr. Murdock worked as a power plant engineer for the State of Massachusetts at the Cushing Hospital for 30 years. Charlie was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for his 30 years of service. After his retirement he worked as a private contractor engineer.

Later in life he received his high school diploma from Melrose High School. He was a lover of poetry and an excellent poetry writer. Charlie’s first poem was written in an Army tent during WWII and has had several of his poems published; “Captured Heart,” “Love Conquers All” in Poems of Love in 1965 and two short stories “Awareness of the Invisible” in 1980 and “Spontaneous Love” in 1988. Mr. Murdock has been a resident of Melrose for the past 10 years.

He was the husband of Maria (Bastos) Murdock. Father of Charlene Murdock of Blackstone, Ronnie Murdock of Pittsfield, N.H. and Bonnie Teehan of Tyngsboro. Also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service with military honors was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass. on Wednesday, January 9.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
