ATTLEBORO — Cynthia Page Horne, 84, of Attleboro, died peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2017.

Cyndy, wife of the late Herbert Horne, is survived by her loving son, James Horne, and his wife, Cathy Jeannette of Melrose; her loving daughter, Janet Cyr of Young Harris, Georgia; and her grandchildren, Jessica and Nathan Horne of Melrose; and Amanda Cyr of Georgia.

Cyndy was born on August 2, 1933 in East Orange New Jersey, daughter of Robert Page and Janet Dryer of Little Compton, Rhode Island. She graduated from Smith College with a degree in Art. Throughout her adult life, Cyndy was driven to do good for society, guided by the arts, and committed to “ask why not and then make it happen.” Her dedication to the Second Congregational Church (numerous roles), leadership of the Sturdy Memorial Gift Shop, passion for Capron Park and the Zoo, and work with the Sweet Club House were all volunteer acts of kindness for the community.

Cyndy was able to envision a future and then make it happen. She helped found the Attleboro Chapter of the League of Women Voters in the early seventies. To help drive tax reform, she ran the successful mayoral campaign of Tom Piggotte. With the support of the Mayor she then created Attleboro’s first Master Plan, a blueprint for development across the city in the 70s. Seeing a need for an outdoor swimming pool she paved the way for funding for the Spatcher Pool. She also founded the “River Rats,” a local environmentalist group, to focus attention on heavy metals in the 10-Mile River, which ultimately led to a major cleanup effort.

Cyndy shared her passion for the arts in the Attleboro book group and the Garden Club (President 1990-1992 and 2003-2005). Her home garden was featured in the Sun Chronicle and painted by Ben Macomber. She was a key leader of Attleboro Celebrity nights, which brought national entertainment to Attleboro High School. She sang in the Second Congregational Choir, and sang and danced in the Jaycee’s annual production.

A celebration of Cyndy’s life will be held on Sunday, November 5, at 2 p,m., at the Second Congregational Church, 50 Park St., Attleboro, immediately followed by a reception at the church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery at a later date.
