MELROSE — Dana F. McCarthy, 49, resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly on October 27, 2019.

Born in Melrose on July 18, 1970, Dana is one of three children of Lillian L. (Boulger) McCarthy and the late Francis H. McCarthy. He grew up in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School in 1987.

Above all else, Dana loved his family. When he wasn’t working detailing cars, which he did for many years, one would find him with his family. He coached his nephew in baseball and loved to play basketball with his children. He also looked forward to time away in Alton Bay, New Hampshire.

Dana had a lifelong love affair with cars, enjoyed reading, especially books about the Mafia or the Civil War, was a proud Bruins, Patriot’s, and Red Sox fan, loved his dog “Baby”, and cherished his time spent with his grandchildren.

A true family man, Dana’s warmth, love, and friendship will be missed by all.

Dana is the beloved son of Lillian L. (Boulger) McCarthy and the late Francis H. McCarthy. Longtime companion and friend of Heather Evans of Melrose. Devoted father of Andrew Evans, Krystal Evans, both of Boston, and Katelyn Herrera and her husband Jonathan of Lynn. Loving brother of Scott McCarthy and his wife Anne of Melrose and Lisa McCarthy of Stoneham. Proud “Papa” of Nathan, Mason, Riley, Daniela, and Lilah. Cherished Uncle of Devin, Justin, and Tyler McCarthy. Dana is also survived by his godmother and aunt Judith and uncle Mike Macero, aunt Concetta Boulger and godfather and uncle Daniel Boulger, aunt Lorraine Boulger and brother-in-law Paul Breen, and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Dana’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, Nov. 1 from 4-8 p.m., with a time of sharing at 7:30 p.m.
