PERRUEL, NORMANDY, FRANCE — Daniel Joseph McGinley, 72, a resident of Perruel, Normandy, France, died on Monday, November 18, 2019.

Danny was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, one of three children of the late Patrick McGinley and Helen (Dugan) McGinley. Originally from Pennsylvania, he graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre, Penn. and from Penn State University. After receiving his education, Danny worked as a newspaper reporter for the Wyoming Valley Observer and managed the Quicksilver Print Shop in Wilkes-Barre for several years.

A lover of literature, Danny was passionate about the written word. With his background in newspaper reporting and technical skills as a writer, Danny was an encyclopedia of language, words and stories. A unique and engaging man, he enjoyed sharing interesting anecdotes in his own “Danny” way. He had an appreciation for the absurd and freely shared his sense of humor with his family and many friends.

Following an introduction by a friend, Danny and Annette Lissauer were married in 1996. For the next 23 years, they shared wonderful memories. Danny, with Annette by his side, enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and discovered Amsterdam as his favorite destination. With a sense of adventure, Danny and Annette relocated to Normandy, France, near the Roman city of Rouen, in 2009. Danny became skilled in the French card game, Tarot. Always personable and well loved, Danny made many friends while in France and treasured the experience of French cuisine, wine and friendship. He traveled extensively with Annette throughout France, as well as Rome, Venice, Florence, Barcelona and Sevilla, England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, while they lived in France, but always held dear his time spent in his adopted home country, the Netherlands.

Danny was one of kind. He will be deeply and sorely missed, but always lovingly remembered for his disarming charm, generous spirit, deep and diverse knowledge.

Danny was the beloved husband of Annette with whom he shared 23 years of marriage. Devoted father of Patrick J. McGinley and his wife Tuuli of Pölvamaa, Estonia. Loving grandfather of Oliivia and Roosi . Also survived by Annette’s children, Otis Ku of Charlotte, N.C., Ran Ku of Melrose, Mass., Clyde Ku of Brunswick, Md. and her grandchildren Katherine, Caroline, Lucas, Jade, Jack. Dear brother of Kevin McGinley and his wife Barbara Ryan of Biddeford, Maine, and the late Patricia McGinley DePolo. Caring uncle of Nicole and Michael DePolo. He also leaves Annette’s siblings Robert, Louisa, and Nelleke, as well as his Donegal Family who he found late in life.
