STONEHAM — Diane (Marcotti) Bowen, 63, a resident of Stoneham and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, December 30, 2019.

Born in Cambridge on September 23, 1956, Diane was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1974. She received her bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College where she met fellow classmate and future husband, John Bowen. Diane and John were married on September 10, 1978, and settled in Melrose to raise their family.

Diane’s professional life began at Harvard University where she helped manage the Eliot and Leverett residential houses. After 10 years at Harvard, Diane transitioned to working at Forsyth Institute in Cambridge as a Grants Manager. She worked diligently and passionately to ensure the success of biomedical research grant programs administered at Forsyth.

Most importantly, Diane was a loving and supportive wife, and selfless mother. She cared deeply for her family, and served as the strong, yet fun and witty mother and more recently, grandmother. Along with her family, she found great comfort in spending time in nature. She loved visiting Ogunquit, Maine and spending time on Ogunquit Beach. Diane had a lifelong love for all animals, and never hesitated to provide supportive care to all animals, large or small. In her free time, she loved bird watching, reading, gardening, traveling including special trips to Alaska and Iceland, and taking care of her many plants around the house. With John, she enjoyed casual days of coffee, followed by cheese and crackers, and wine. Above all, Diane was always there for her family. She provided unconditional and selfless love to her husband and beloved daughters. She will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered for her generous spirit, and uncompromising nature.

Diane was the beloved wife of John F. Bowen with whom she shared 41 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Vanessa Bello and her husband Andrew of Waltham, Gina Foshage and her husband William of Boxford, Julia Wrightenberry and her husband Chandler of Wilmington, N.C., and stepmother of Carmen Pepe and her husband Mike of Avon Lake, Ohio. Cherished daughter of Arthur and Norma (Gradone) Marcotti of Melrose. Dear sister of the late A. Douglas Marcotti and his surviving wife Alison of Melrose. Proud grandmother of Tegan, William, Pase and Pierdon.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Diane’s life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Jan. 2 and again on Friday before leaving in procession to St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham for her funeral Mass.
