MELROSE — Frances Y. (McCabe) Scalisi, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at the Genesis Healthcare at Wakefield Center in Wakefield on September 16, 2017 at the age of 80. 

Fran was born in Newton, raised in Arlington and Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1955.  She drove cross country twice and resided in Carmel, California for 10 years and Melrose for over 20 years.  Frannie was the owner of Annie’s Book Swap in Malden for seven years, taught English at a college and managed an Inn in Carmel, California. She was a member and contributor for OXFAM and Doctors without Borders.  Fran loved her time at the ocean in Monterey, California and Rockport.  She spent many summers at Sebago Lake, Maine, and enjoyed walking trails and taking pictures of nature scenes in Rockport. 

Frannie was the loving mother of Mark S. Scalisi, Karen A. Scalisi, both of Melrose, Cheryl L. Scalisi and her fiancé Greg Celko of Webster, Walter P. Scalisi of Melrose and Brian M. Scalisi and his wife Tina of Saugus. Cherished grandmother of Christina, Dara, Sophia and Juliana. Former spouse of Anthony M. Scalisi of Melrose. Caring sister of Helen Engdahl and her husband John of Wilmington and the late Roberta Bamberg and her late husband Charles. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
