MELROSE — God called home John Patrick Gill, 51, on Thursday, January 9, 2020. John died at Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side.

John was born in Cambridge on May 15, 1968. He was raised in Somerville and graduated from Minuteman High School in Lexington where he was the Class President. John was the former husband of Carla (Melillo) Gill. Loving father of Anna Rose Gill, Anthony John Gill, Mary Francis Gill, Bridget Ann Gill and Christopher Joseph Gill. Beloved son of Ann M. (Grady) Gill and the late Hugh G. Gill. Cherished brother of Hugh Gill Jr., Patricia Manning and Kathleen Bazazi and her husband Kam. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

John was a hard worker, owning his own plumbing business and working himself as a plumber since the age of 18. John was a friend to all, with a contagious sense of humor. He was a story teller, a comedian, a dreamer, and a thrill seeker. John loved children and held much pride for his own five children. John enjoyed the beauty in life; he often awoke early in the mornings just to walk the beach with his dog, Rocky, and watch the sunrise. He will be gravely missed by all his family and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday January 14. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield on Wednesday, January 15, followed by a burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gill Education Fund, c/o Melrose Bank, 638 Main St. Melrose, MA 02176.
