MELROSE – Marilyn A. (Goss) DeRosa, 83, a resident of Melrose and formerly longtime of Everett, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Wingate at Sudbury.

Marilyn was born in Everett on April 24, 1935, one of three children of the late William E. and Marion (Lynn) Goss. Raised in Everett, she graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1953 and began working for the telephone company shortly after graduation. She enjoyed her work as an operator for “Ma Bell” until reaching retirement age at 53 after 35 years of dedicated service.

A longtime resident of Everett, Marilyn remained at home to care for her mother for many years. As a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, Marilyn met a fellow active member of the parish, Anthony J. DeRosa, and they fell in love.

Marilyn was married later in life but she and Tony shared 18 years of great friendship and made many happy memories. They enjoyed day trips to Mohegan Sun and cheering on the Red Sox, Patriots, and her favorite, the Celtics. Marilyn also enjoyed taking cruises to warmer climates. She and Tony eventually moved to Melrose and Marilyn became a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield.

In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed listening to all types of music and loved all the old classics. A sociable woman, she enjoyed residing at the Fuller House in Melrose where she made new acquaintances and friends. She will be missed.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. DeRosa. Dear sister of the late William E. Goss, Jr. and his wife Gladys of Somerville, and the late Robert A. Goss and his wife Mary Steffen of Sudbury. Caring aunt of William E. Goss III, Cynthia M. Dunn and her husband Edward of Sudbury, and Robert A. Goss, Jr. and his wife Delia of Shapleigh, Maine. She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Marilyn’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and again on Thursday before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for her funeral Mass.
