WINTHROP — Michael J. “Otis” Twomey, 67, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully March 16, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side.

He was the husband of the late Bonnie E. Hamann, “the love of his life.”  A beloved son of deceased parents Augustine J. Twomey and Mary Murphy Twomey Grimes. Mike is survived by a loving sister, Anita L. Phipps of Holliston, a brother Myles V. Twomey and his wife Debra of Salem, N.H. His cherished nieces Alexandria and Elizabeth Twomey, and Dakota Cohen of Salem, N.H. He leaves adoring cousins and relatives, with many dear friends across the country.

Mike was born on April 24, 1950 and raised in Melrose. He graduated from St. John’s Prep in 1968. Mike attended Marquette University until 1971, becoming involved in political campaigns of the era. Mike moved to North Dakota with college friends and learned carpentry, framing houses and pole barns from Fargo to Dickinson, N.D. Mike and Bonnie returned to Boston in 1980. They bought a small house in the Point Shirley neighborhood of Winthrop, and made it their home.

Mike joined Boston Carpenters Local “33” in 1981. He was a proud and active member for 37 years. He was a knowledgeable sports fan, supporting all the local teams in the Boston area. “Otis” lived a colorful, mostly happy life. Mike was a gregarious man, with a big heart and a kind and generous spirit. His Irish wit and sense of humor made people feel comfortable around him. His love of music was shared with many family members and friends. They were introduced to new genres and artists. This led to attending concerts and festivals creating life long memories. Otis touched many lives and helped people along the way. He will be remembered as a true gentleman, who made a difference in others lives. R.I.P. Otis, we love you.
