MELROSE — Ngan Sau Mui, 89, former longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2019 at South Cove Manor at Quincy Point.

Ngan was born in Taishan, China on November 5, 1929, one of two children of the late Sam Young and Chin Kam Young. Raised in Taishan, she immigrated to the United States in 1970, settling in Mattapan until moving to Melrose in 1976. While living on Franklin Street in Melrose with her family, Ngan enjoyed her work as a seamstress and member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

A strong, and dedicated wife and mother, she was married to King Sam Mui and raised two children. While a proud resident of Melrose, Ngan was deeply rooted in her Chinese heritage and enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the cultural center of Chinatown. In her free time, she found joy in playing mahjong and watching Cantonese operas and movies.

Ngan will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered for her independence, great inner strength, and perseverance.

Ngan was the beloved wife of the late King Sam Mui with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Howard Mui and his wife Susan of Stoneham, and Lavina Lin and her husband William of Hong Kong. Dear sister of Foo Wing Yung of his wife Mena of San Francisco, Calif. Cherished grandmother of Calvin Mui, Tiffany Mui, Kevin Lim and Vincent Lim. Proud great-grandmother of Colette “Coco” and Olivia.

Family and friends were invited to gather in honor and remembrance of Ngan’s life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, August 20, followed by interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. For online tribute or directions: RobinsonFuneralHome.com.
