Had a love for dogs and horses

MELROSE — Patricia Ann (Smith) Pike, 64, passed away at her home in Melrose after a courageous 20 year battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in Stoneham on January 15, 1954 to the late Russell and Catherine (Randall) Smith. She was raised in the Mount Hood section of Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1972. Patty Ann was a lifelong resident of Melrose who had a love for dogs and horses. She volunteered at the New England Equine Rescue League, worked in sales at a jewelry store in Boston and at Marka’s Antique Store on Charles Street in Boston.

Patty Ann enjoyed collecting shells and rocks on the beach and when she found a piece of driftwood she would create a beautiful piece of art with it. She loved taking trips to Booth Bay Harbor in Maine, Hampton Beach in N.H., and Christmas Island in N.H.

Patty Ann was the beloved wife of John W. Pike. Loving mother of Thomas J. Pike and Russell E. Pike and his fiancé Sarah all of Melrose. Caring sister of Suzanne Walsh of Melrose, Robert Smith of Washington and the late Judy Sergi, Beverly Griggers and Kathy Logue. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, February 8. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home on Friday morning, February 9, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend.
