MELROSE — Robert E. Field, 90, of Melrose, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully, March 9, 2020 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital following a short period of declining health. Born in Somerville, Robert was one of two sons of the late James W. and Hazel E. (Roach) Field.

Robert was raised and educated in Medford. He was a graduate of Medford High School where he was a standout student athlete. He went on to attend Syracuse University playing football there and graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in engineering. Robert honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and following his return home from the service he began his career as a talented self-employed Civil Engineer.

Robert raised his family in Melrose and for many years was very active with his sons in youth sports in Melrose. He often volunteered as a coach and was always front and center supporting them in their different activities. Aside from his family, one of Robert’s greatest passions was spending time on the ocean sailing where he found great peace and comfort.

Robert is survived by his sons, Robert Field and his wife Cindy of Wilmington, Stewart Field and his wife Heather of Sacco, Maine. He was the loving grandfather of Devin and Lauren Field; brother of the late Charles E. Field.

Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend a graveside service with military honors at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, Friday, March 20. Arrangements by the Dello Russo Family Funeral Service of Wilmington.
