MALDEN — Stephen W. “Bill” McAteer, 74, died at Glenridge Nursing Home in Medford on August 14, 2019.

Bill was born in Malden on October 1, 1944. He was raised in Malden and Melrose, graduated from Malden Catholic High School and attended Boston University. Mr. McAteer lived in Melrose for 10 years and then in the Maplewood Section of Malden for most of his life.

Bill worked in sales and as a service manager at a variety of car dealerships in the Boston area. He was a lifelong lover of cars, enjoyed taking road trips, going to car shows and was a collector of car memorabilia. Bill was an award winning photographer, loved listening to the blues, jazz and country music. He also took many trips over to Ireland to visit family and friends.

Bill was very close and proud of his two nieces.

Mr. McAteer was the devoted son of the late Stephen and Anne E. (Power) McAteer. Loving brother of Mary Beth Margolis and her husband Michael of Melrose. Loving uncle of Alana and Molly Margolis. Also survived by numerous cousins and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, August 20, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Danvers. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend.
