MELROSE — A Lowell educator has been named the next permanent principal of Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.

Dr. Zachary Best succeeds Brent Conway. Assistant Principal Jamie Parsons had been serving as interim MVMMS principal for the 2018-19 academic year.

Following is part of a release from Superintendent of Schools Cyndy Taymore about the new middle school principal.

“Dr. Best brings to MVMMS a wide ranging experience across rural, suburban, and urban education settings. Currently, he is the Assistant Principal at the Butler Middle School in Lowell, MA. He previously served as an Assistant Principal for seven years in the Knox (Tennessee) County Schools. Dr. Best started his career in education as a drama teacher in Knoxville, his hometown.

“Dr. Best received his undergraduate degree, his master’s degree, and his doctorate from the University of Tennessee.

“We look forward to Dr. Best joining the Melrose Public Schools as of July 1, 2019. He will soon communicate directly with families and staff to arrange some informal opportunities to meet him prior to the new school year. I hope you will take advantage of these times to welcome Dr. Best to the Melrose community.”
