WAKEFIELD — Amy McLeod, currently in charge of curriculum and instruction at Lowell High, has been named the next principal of Wakefield’s flagship school.

McLeod was chosen to succeed Rich Metropolis as principal of Wakefield Memorial High yesterday by Supt. of Schools Dr. Kim Smith.

Smith released the following statement:

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce the appointment of Ms. Amy McLeod as the next Principal of Wakefield Memorial High School. Following a comprehensive search process that included many qualified candidates, Ms. McLeod emerged as an excellent match for the mission and core values of Wakefield Memorial High School and the Wakefield Public Schools.

Amy McLeod was a high school English teacher and Assistant Principal in New York for the first seven years of her career, and then transitioned to Lowell High School, where she took a position as English Department Chair. Since this time, Ms. McLeod has also worked as a School Coach in Boston, coordinating student support services and content literacy instruction, and as a Literacy Consultant and Project Manager for Teaching and Learning Alliance, designing professional development programs that meet schools’ goals. She is currently the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Lowell High School, the equivalent of a Deputy Principal position in large suburban high schools.

A graduate of Villanova and Teachers College, Columbia University, Ms. McLeod brings extensive knowledge, experience and leadership expertise to the Wakefield Public Schools. Most importantly, Amy McLeod brings a warm, energetic presence to a school eager to continue its growth on the path to excellence. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Amy McLeod, beginning July 1, as the Principal of Wakefield Memorial High School.
