HAVERHILL — The No. 9 ranked NRHS boys’ soccer team traveled to No. 8 Whittier Tech on Monday in a Div. 3 North first round matchup. In the end, the Hornets would get their first tournament win since a 2-1 double overtime victory over Watertown in 2016.

North Reading got goals from senior captain Cam Chinchillo, sophomore Aiden Nadeau and freshman Josh Stanieich.

The Hornets played top-ranked Bedford in the quarterfinals on Wednesday after press time. The Buccaneers finished the regular season with a 14-1-1 record and are the favorites to win the Div. 3 North bracket.

The winner of NR-Bedford game will play the winner of Wayland vs. Newburyport in the semifinals on Monday, 2 p.m. at St. John’s Prep.
