NORTH READING — For one day each year, the North Reading Diamond Club trades in line drives for long drives when it hosts the Diamond Club Golf Tournament.

This year’s event takes place Friday, Aug. 24, at the Hillview Golf Course, with 7 a.m. registration and an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Proceeds will help the North Reading Diamond Club continue its support of our hometown baseball programs. For more than a decade, the Diamond Club has invested thousands of dollars and countless hours to improve Carey Park, fund scholarships, and advance North Reading baseball across multiple levels, while building on the great tradition established by former coach Frank Carey and current coach Eric Archambault.

Coach Archambault added “The golf tournament is a major fundraiser that benefits players of all ages in this town. Our high school program works very closely with the Diamond Club, which has helped enhance the facilities tremendously at Carey Park. The Diamond Club has donated to many projects over the years including dugouts, the outfield fence, and most notably the brand new double batting cage which will be used by players in this town from youth leagues to high school baseball and softball.”

The goal for this year’s tournament is to reach 100 golfers. All community golf enthusiasts, alumni, friends, and families are welcome for this fun event, which is a great way to catch up with former teammates and baseball fans across generations.

Also as part of the festivities, the Diamond Club will honor North Reading’s 2012 State Championship Team. Members of the team will be hosted by alumni, family and friends at the Horseshoe Grille after the tournament (approximately 1 p.m.).

Tickets for the golf event and celebration are $150 (includes lunch) or a lunch-only option for $50 can be purchased online at www.birdeasepro.com/NRDCGolf.

Golfers receive a “swag bag” filled with prizes and a Diamond Club soft-sided cooler. Local businesses and individual supporters may sponsor a hole for $100 with additional sponsorship opportunities available on the website. All of the fundraising efforts support NR Baseball including a $500 scholarship to be awarded to a NRHS senior from the varsity baseball program.
