NORTH READING — A sun-drenched field of 142 golfers participated in the North Reading Diamond Club (NRDC) 5th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament on Aug. 21.

Ex-Hornet ballplayers as well as friends and family of the alums gathered to help raise funds for capital improvements, scholarships, and other investments in North Reading’s baseball community. Recently completed projects directed by The NRDC include a new digital scoreboard and infield at Carey Park, as well as a major upgrade to the Hood School field.

Pat Lee, owner of the Horseshoe Café and Gold Sponsor of the tournament, welcomed the golfers at 8 a.m. and thanked them for their continued commitment to the Diamond Club’s cause. Without the generous support of the alums and sponsors (see list in this week’s Transcript), this event would not be possible.

Former coach and architect of the NR Baseball Program Frank Carey himself presented the Diamond Club recognition award this year to Ed Madden, a long time President of North Reading Little League and committed supporter of the NRDC.
