Hornets stand at 3-2

NORTH READING — The NRHS boys’ lacrosse team traveled down to Nantucket on Sunday, April 8 and were handed a 15-11 defeat by the Whalers.

Squeak past Sachems in 14-13 nail-biter

Senior captain Kevin Murphy scored the game-winning goal with just under 30 seconds remaining to propel the Hornets to a thrilling 14-13 victory over the Pentucket Sachems on April 10.

Junior Sean Fagen carried the load for North Reading with four goals and five assists. Murphy added four goals and an assist and junior Mike Sheridan picked up three goals and an assist.

NRHS jumped out to a five-goal lead in the first half, but Pentucket refused to go away. The Sachems stormed back and eventually took the lead in the second half.  But the Hornets responded in the fourth and eventually Murphy potted the game-winner.  

Fall to Ipswich 11-10 in back and forth contest

The Hornets fought hard but were ultimately defeated by the defending Division 3 State Champion Ipswich Tigers, 11-10, in a back and forth affair on Friday afternoon to end the week at 3-2 on the season.

Murphy and Fagen paced the offense with five points apiece. Murphy scored four goals and one assist while Fagen added a goal and four assists.  Mike Sheridan added three goals while freshman Jake DiNapoli and junior Jay Schille each chipped in one goal.
