NORTH READING — Three members of the North Reading High girls lacrosse team were named to the Cape Ann League Second-Team All-Stars selected by the league coaches. The three Hornets players to make the squad were midfielders Kiley McCarthy, Brooke DeGrande and Sydney Corsetti. McCarthy is a junior while DeGrande and Corsetti were senior co-captains.

“I was most proud of their leadership and character,” said the Hornets’ first-year head coach Matt Costello.

McCarthy led the team in points with 70 as she had 48 goals and 22 assists. DeGrande finished with 31 points as she had 20 goals and 11 assists.

Corsetti had 14 goals and four assists for 18 points.

North Reading finished the year at 5-13 as they won four of their final five games of the season. They were 0-9 in the Cape Ann League.

Along with DeGrande and Corsetti the Hornets will also lose four other seniors. Those 12th-graders are Mary Madden (attacker), Casey McAuliffe (midfielder- attacker), Maddie Miele (attacker), and Gabby Barker (defenseman).

Barker was named by the US Lacrosse Association, and All-Academic.

“That is the first time that has happened in team history,” pointed out Costello.

Costello will miss the seniors.

“They were an unbelievable group to coach,” he said.

On June 4, the coaches gave out awards at the team banquet. McCarthy was named the Offensive Player of the Year while Barker was the Defensive Player of the Year.

Miele was the Unsung Hero while DeGrande was the team’s MVP. McAuliffe got the Coaches Award while Corsetti took home the Family Award.

Madden got the other award which was the Positive Leadership Award.

Next year’s captains were also selected and they will be McCarthy, along with fellow juniors, defenders Lauren Keough and Lauren Sullivan.
