NORTH READING — Sophomore Jenna DiNapoli’s goal in the 19th minute held up and the North Reading High School girls’ soccer team upended rival Lynnfield 1-0 on October 10. Senior captain Julia Thorstad made five saves to earn her second straight shutout.

Beat Rockport 2-1

The Hornets extended their winning streak to three games with a hard fought 2-1 road victory over the host Rockport Vikings on October 14. Senior Kaitlyn Copelas and junior Maddie DiNapoli both scored for North Reading.

After a scoreless first half, the action really heated up in the second half. Copelas opened the scoring in the 56th minute but the lead was short lived as the Vikings answered with the tying strike 12 minutes later.

As the clock ticked down it looked like the game was going to finish up tied, but the Hornets kept fighting and with just 21 seconds remaining before stoppage time, Maddie DiNapoli struck with the game winner.

North Reading tied Amesbury 1-1 in another road game on Monday. A full story will appear next week.

The Hornets are now 3-1-1 on the season. They hosted Hamilton-Wenham (4-0-1) on Wednesday after press time. Ipswich (3-2) visits North Reading on Saturday at 2 p.m.
