NORTH READING — Last Friday afternoon, the North Reading High volleyball team lost at home to undefeated Lynnfield, 3-0. The Hornets lost the three games, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-10 as the Pioneers (14-0 overall and 12-0 in the Cape Ann League) completed the season sweep over the Hornets.

North Reading, meanwhile, fell to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in the Cape Ann League. They must now go at least 3-2 in their final five matches in order to qualify for the Division 2 state tournament.

“They are the best team we will play all year,” said Hornets head coach Mike Milone, whose squad last made the states two season ago. “Their poise and consistency won out.”

Kristina Valenti led North Reading as the junior had seven digs and three kills.

On Oct. 18, the Hornets welcome Newburyport looking for a split of the season series. That game is the team’s Dig Pink Game as they will raise money to fight breast cancer.

There will be raffles and a star toss game to try to raise finds.

On Oct. 21 they visit Ipswich, trying to split the season series.

Both of those matches will start at 5:15 p.m.
