NORTH READING — SummerScape started our week with our Pay it forward Monday with a day for the dogs. Kids brought in and donated food and toys for our furry friends. Then the kids made some great fleece blankets for the animals at the shelter. Monday I dropped off these much appreciated items to Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem (Mass.). They were more than grateful.

Our last week of programming included a ton of fun starting off with Touch a Truck day where kids climbed and honked horns on DPW trucks, a police vehicle, fire engine and Reading Municipal light cherry picker. Then kids enjoyed free slushie day.

Tuesday the kids played Music Trivia relay against the staff and then had a great show from The Chris Poulos Bicycle Stunt show.

Wednesday the kids went to Launch Trampoline Park where over 120 of us enjoyed jumping, bouncing and playing trampoline dodge ball with staff vs. kids.

Thursday was a fun filled day of Staff vs. Kids games and, finally, Friday included our famous end of Summer Talent Show followed up by popsicles and a lot of hugs and goodbyes. We wrapped up a great summer of fun, friendship, field trips, crafts and games and payed it forward to the North Reading Food Pantry, Children’s hospitals, our military serving overseas, seniors in assisted living, NR Police and Fire, animal shelters as well as the Mighty Meredith Project. We cannot wait until next year.

Kid Connection had a great week as well with their Planes Trains and Automobiles week. Kids here also got to attend the Touch a Truck day and then make great crafts including an airplane made out of graham crackers and grapes, a truck made out of cookies and a clothespin airplane. The fun continued with playing red light, green light. Parachute stop light and musical train game. The kids also enjoyed a free slushie day.

North Reading Recreation would like to thank every family that shared their children with us this summer. We appreciate your trust in us and thoroughly enjoyed their smiles, laughs and silliness. We hope they all have a pleasant school year and we cannot wait to see them all again next summer.
