NORTH READING — The Town Clerk’s Office would like to advise voters that the ballots for the Presidential Election have not yet been received from the state, however the office is preparing envelopes in advance in order to start processing the mailings as soon as ballots are received.

“There are over 4,000 applications for mailed ballots currently on file, which increases daily. These requests will be processed in the order of receipt – first in/first out. Please be patient!”  Town Clerk Barbara Stats said on Tuesday.

Stats also emphasized that if a mailed ballot application was previously submitted for both the September State Primary and the November Presidential Election, there is no need to submit another application.

“If you are already a registered voter, there is no need to register ‘again’ for the Presidential Election,” she stressed. “The voter registration card included with the Secretary of State’s “Red Book” is intended for persons who are not already registered. Duplicate ballot requests and duplicate voter registrations create a duplication of office efforts in checking the status of these requests, which causes a delay in the processing of new requests.”

The Red Book, mailed to households last weekend by the state, includes a voter registration card along with information about the two ballot questions that will appear on the Massachusetts ballot, and other pertinent information related to the election.

For the most current information regarding the Presidential Election, Early Voting, or searching the state’s website for one’s own information or ballot status, Stats requests voters visit the Town Clerk’s website at: www.northreadingma.gov/town-clerk as it will be continually updated. Future updates will also be included in the Transcript.
