NORTH READING — John “Ray” Gallant, 70, of North Reading, passed away on Nov. 14, 2017 after battling cancer.

He was the beloved husband of Donna (Clifford). He was the father of Scott Gallant of Portland, Oregon; and Laura Gallant of Peabody.  He was the son of the late John L. and Helen Gallant. He was the brother of Helena Tripp and her husband Ted of Texas; Stephen Gallant and his wife Linda of Melrose; and Warren Gallant and his wife Sue of New Mexico.

Relatives and friends were welcomed at Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St, North Reading on Saturday, Nov. 18. Interment will be private. Please omit flowers and make donations in John’s name to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

John was a former captain in the Malden Fire Department, and served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion in Malden and the VFW. Avid with civic virtue and always willing to lend a hand, John enjoyed conversation with everyone, camping with family, golfing, and skiing with friends. In retirement, John loved spending time in Sarasota, Florida with his wife, Donna.
