Retired proprietor of Mount Vernon Antiques

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. — Karen Lee (Johnson) Hurley, 73, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., formerly of North Reading and Andover, died February 18, 2018 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

Born in Stoneham on October 2, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Howard V. and Ruth E. (Dodge) Johnson. She was raised and attended school in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1962.

Karen was a retired Post Office Supervisor at the Distribution Center in North Reading. She was also the proprietor of Mount Vernon Antiques in Lawrence.

She spent her life taking care of her five boys and her husband. She loved annual trips to Florida with her husband and eventually bought a home in Tarpon Springs. Karen loved her Chihuahua “Rocky” who travelled everywhere with her.

She enjoyed antiquing when she ran Mount Vernon Antiques and she loved reading. She was very proud of her grandchildren and she enjoyed following the Red Sox.

Family members include her loving sons, John Michael Hurley and Timothy Hurley and his wife Paula, all of Manchester, N.H., Sean Hurley of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Terrance Hurley of North Reading and the late Patrick Hurley; sisters, Vicki J. Simpter of North Reading and Linda Gamache and her husband Bruce of Newfane, N.Y.; brother-in-law, James Hurley and his wife Linda of Florida and Maine; three grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas and Abigail, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 3 at 1 p.m. at the Martin’s Pond Union Baptist Church, 4 Cogswell Road, North Reading. www.croswellfuneralhome.com
