Avid hiker and bird watcher who traveled the world

NORTH ANDOVER – Lorraine (Dion) Thompson, 90, wife of the late Frederick L. Thompson, Sr., passed away March 23, 2021 at Prescott House in North Andover.

Born in Pomfret, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Ulderic and Bernadette (Darveau) Dion. Raised in Lebanon, N.H., she was a graduate of Lebanon High School, Class of 1948. She obtained her teaching degree from Keene State, graduating in the Class of 1952. Lorraine lived in Rochester, N.Y. from 1963 until 1975, when she moved to Danvers, Mass. While living in Danvers, she volunteered for many years at the former Hunt Hospital.

Lorraine lived in Arizona from 1993 until 2015 before moving to North Reading, Mass. She was an avid hiker and bird watcher, traveling to every state in the union and many countries to bird watch. Known for being a huge Celtics fan, she also enjoyed bowling. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving Lorraine are her children, Frederick L. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Cathy of Atkinson, N.H.; Claudette M. Thompson and Christopher McGovern of North Reading, Mass.; Paul N. Thompson and his wife Juli of Elon, N.C.; John W. Thompson and his wife Elisabeth of Bradford, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at a later time at the New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscawen, N.H. Arrangements are in the care of the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill.
