U.S. Army veteran; enjoyed fishing, golf and pool

NORTH READING — William A. Woods, 75, of North Reading and formerly of Charlestown, died Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of the late Cheryl A. (Bourque) Woods.

Born in Boston on September 21, 1943, he was the son of the late John L. Woods Sr. and Ruth A. (Joyce) Woods. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He enlisted in 1962 and served until 1965.

Bill worked as a truck driver for many years. He worked for Benevento’s in Wilmington for over 20 years until his retirement 10 years ago. He had been a resident of North Reading for over 60 years.

He always made people happy and loved good stories. Bill enjoyed fishing, playing golf and pool. Bill especially loved being with his family.

Family members include his loving son, William A. Woods Jr. and his wife Barbara; his daughters, Carlene Fitzgerald and her husband Jim, late daughters, Deborah and Wanda Woods; brother, Dan Woods and his wife Nancy, late brothers, Jack, Paul “Buddy,” Tom and Mike Woods; sisters, Kate Roberts and her husband Dick, Marsha Pierce and her late husband Arthur, and the late Ruthanne Lucci; sisters-in-law, Karen and Walda Woods; brother-in-law, Tony Lucci; 12 grandchildren, Billy, Jake, Shane, T.J., James, Michael, Robert, Norman, Amy, Kaitlin, Marion and the late Heith. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
