CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — Philip (Phil) Anthony Perrone, 87, of Crystal River, Fla. passed away October 10, 2019 under the loving care of his family and Vitas Hospice.

Philip was born on June 7, 1932 in Wakefield, Mass. to the late Anthony and Susan (DeCecca) Perrone. He attended Wakefield public schools and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1950 where he played varsity baseball and basketball. In 1951 Phil joined the U.S. Air Force for four years and served three years in England, France and Germany. While serving, he attended military Statistical School, Finance School and also played on the Erding Air Force Base Basketball team located in Munich, Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1955.

Philip received his BS degree from Boston University in 1959 and a M.Ed degree from Salem State College in 1962. He taught Social Studies at Wakefield Middle School for 10 years, coached the junior varsity baseball team, was elected to serve on the Recreation Board and also served as the Operations and Personnel Director at Pleasure Island.

He then moved to Miami, Florida where he taught social studies and reading at Cutler Ridge Middle School for 22 years. While in Florida, Phil completed post graduate studies at the University of Miami, Barry College and Florida International University, all located in Miami-Dade County. He was a member of the 7 Rivers Golf and Country Club in Crystal River, was a former president of the Pinehurst Village Board of Directors for four years and was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River.

Philip was preceded in death by his first beloved wife, Ann Elizabeth (Holden) Perrone; sisters Dorothy Medley, and Florence Fuccillo and brothers Ernest and Edmund DeMartinis. Philip is survived by his loving wife, Helen Perrone, of Crystal River, Fla.; brother Gus Perrone and his family; nephews Tony Martino, wife Bambi and family, of Wakefield, Michael Medley and family, of Wakefield; nieces Susan Martino and family, of North Reading, Judy Martino and family of St. Thomas, VI; sisters in law, Dorothy DeMartinis and family, of Woodbridge, Va. and Ruth (DeMartinis) Zabierek and Family of Billerica.
