Deveau-obit-webBOSTON — Rene Paul Deveau, 80, passed away at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston on Monday, October 26.

Rene was born in Boston on April 3, 1935, was raised in Jamaica Plain and Roslindale and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School.

He lived most of his life in Roslindale before moving to Melrose in 1998. Mr. Deveau worked as a groundskeeper at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge for several years and then in the shipping department of Otis Elevator for many years.

Rene was an avid bird watcher, was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the Cape Cod Bird Club, the Brookline Bird Club and has been a member of St. Mary’s Church since 1998.

Mr. Deveau also enjoyed drawing birds, trees and nature scenes.

Rene was the beloved son of the late Simon and Evelyn (Burrill) Deveau. He was the loving brother of Myrna A. Deane and her husband William of Melrose, Marion R. Joyce of W. Roxbury and the late Joyce H. Kennedy and her husband Frederick of Canada. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Saturday morning, October 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Herbert Street, Melrose at 10: a.m.

Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Roslindale.
