WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Police and State Police are investigating after a 28-year-old Wakefield man reported being robbed at gunpoint by two masked men in the parking lot of his apartment building on Hopkins Street at about 3:30 this morning.

The victim pursued the robbers in his car to Route 93, where he said that the robbers shot at him as he followed. The robbers were driving a blue Honda Odyssey minivan and were last seen in the area of Roosevelt Circle in Medford.

Both robbers were described as being about 5 foot 8 inches tall, wearing masks and dark clothing. Police said that they do not believe that the robbery was a random act. They believe that the victim was targeted. The robbers were able to make off with some jewelry and cash.

An employee of a Melvin Street business reported yesterday morning at about 9 a.m. that some tools had been stolen in a break that occurred sometime over the weekend. The tools were taken from a cabinet that had been pried open. The business owner called back later and told police that he had found security camera video of the suspect. Police are investigating.

Police are also investigating a larceny from a 2015 Chevy work van that was parked in the rear of 27 Water St. The theft was reported at about 9:15 Monday morning and is believed to have occurred sometime over the weekend.

Police said that a rear window of the van was smashed and some copper fittings and assorted tools were stolen. Police are looking at security camera footage.

Just after noon yesterday, an Aborn Avenue woman reported the theft of some personal checks. She said that she ordered the checks from her bank and they were confirmed to have been shipped on May 31 but never arrived.

There is no sign so far that any of the checks had been cashed against her account.

Just before 4 p.m. yesterday, a caller reported a man, possibly under the influence, passed out on a front lawn on Cyrus Street. The man was taken by ambulance to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

At about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, a caller reported being involved in a minor two-car crash on Water Street near Montrose Avenue.

A Swampscott woman was issued a citation for failure to yield after a minor two-car crash on Salem Street yesterday at about 7 p.m.

Police said that a 2014 Honda Accord, driven by the Swampscott woman, attempted to turn left from Salem Street into the Dunkin’ Donuts and collided with a 2014 Honda CRV driven by a Stoneham woman that was heading east on Salem Street.

The Fire Department responded to 16 calls yesterday, including 11 for medical aid.
