WAKEFIELD — Ronald P. Martin, 83 of Wakefield, died on Tuesday, September 12 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Everett on October 1, 1933, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Margaret M. (Marsh) Martin.

Mr. Martin was raised in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1951. He went on to Boston University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering; and later a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Martin had worked in aeronautical, mechanical, and civil engineering before retiring from MA Highway Department as a Bridge Engineer. He raised his family in Wakefield and cherished summer vacations with his grandchildren. He was a train enthusiast and loved the opera. Mr. Martin was the Chapel organist and choir member at the First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield for many years.

He was the beloved husband of Sylvia J. (Verville) Martin. He was the loving father of Stephen Martin and his wife Laurie of Westford, Jackie Martin of Albuquerque, NM, Laura Amrein and her husband Joseph of Nashua, NH and David Martin of Arlington. He was the grandfather of David Martin, Julie Martin, Anna Martin, Sarah Amrein, Nick Martin, Katherine Amrein and Matthew Zank. He was the brother-in-law of Claire Dempsey and her husband James of Scarborough, ME.

Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral service will take place at the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Wakefield on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
