GLOUCESTER — Jane Murphy, 82, of Gloucester, formerly of Wakefield, died on August 19, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She shared 57 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Robert J. Murphy, with whom she raised five children. Jane and Bob Given of Reading, Susan and Louis Chinappi of Peabody, Bob and Sarah Murphy of Westwood, Tricia and Brian Coffey of Lynnfield, and Beth Murphy of Hamilton, all will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her son Stephen. Her grandchildren, David, Andrea, Sam, Hannah, Kevin, and Kyleigh were her pride and joy. Jane cherished the love and friendship of her sister Ellen Ferrick and sister-in-law Pat Murphy. She will be missed by her nieces and many wonderful friends.

The daughter of the late John and Mary Cronin, she graduated from St Joseph’s High School in Somerville. Jane’s abiding passions were her family and friends. She cooked gourmet meals on a Coleman stove during annual family camping trips to Martha’s Vineyard, enjoyed weekends in Newport with her girls, and a bit of the craic around the kitchen table. She fearlessly drove throughout all of Ireland and would happily help friends plan their trips. While living in Wakefield, she devoted much of her time to St. Joseph’s Church. She was a proud member of the Gloucester YMCA Wet Hens, and at age 77 inspired all by taking a New Year’s Day polar plunge at Good Harbor Beach.

Visiting hours are from 5-8 p.m., Friday, August 24 at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 25 at St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester. Burial will be held privately.  Online condolences may be given at: www.greelyfuneralhome.com
