Enjoyed gardening, shopping and date nights with her husband

WAKEFIELD — Janet S. Hammond, 71, of Wakefield, died peacefully Saturday, October 6, 2018 at her residence.

Born on March 23, 1947 she was the daughter of the late Francis and Evelyn (Astle) Mackenzie.

Mrs. Hammond was born and raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1965. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She loved gardening, shopping, and enjoying date nights out with her husband to all the local restaurants. Throughout her life, Mrs. Hammond spent her summers in Windham, N.H. and especially loved time spent at Cobbett’s Pond. She also loved hosting her family on the holidays, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She was the beloved wife of David J. Hammond. She was the loving mother of Stephanie A. Gerstein and her husband Jeffrey of Windham, N.H. and Michael J. Hammond of Wakefield and his partner Jessica Sheppard of Saugus. She was the cherished grandmother of Isabel Gerstein. She was the sister of the late Francis A. Mackenzie, Jr., Barbara Clark, and Douglass A. Mackenzie. She is also survived by dear cousins Marian Dinsmore and her husband George and Beverly Meuse and her husband Phil, all of N.H.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral services will be private. Arrangements in the care of McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
