WAKEFIELD — Joseph A. Lettieri, 75, a longtime resident of Wakefield passed away suddenly on February 18, 2019.

Born in Boston on January 16, 1944, Joseph was raised in East Boston and graduated from English High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1967 and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War. After serving four years, Joseph received an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1971. With an educational background from Wentworth Institute and Suffolk University, Joe began his work as a land surveyor and party chief.

Joe was a generous, honest, and kind hearted man. He was deeply devoted to his family, especially his sister and dearest friend, Pauline, and was forever loyal to his partner, Linda Richardson whom he supported with great care and compassion. Joe’s big heart also extended to his love of animals. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels in the backyard at home in Wakefield, and going to the horse track at Suffolk Downs.

With a love for model railroading, Joe’s pride and joy was his “O gauge” train set which he ran everyday while doing his morning exercise. Joe also loved classic muscle cars and maintained his favorite 1963 Chevrolet Super Sport 409 for 40 years.

Most of all, Joe was an honorable man who gave of himself to others. He will be deeply missed but always lovingly remembered.

Joe was the cherished son of the late Samuel Letteiri and Matilda (Rubano) Letteiri. Beloved brother of Pauline Lettieri of Wakefield. Loving partner of Linda Richardson of Jewett City, Conn. Also survived by his cousins in N.J. and N.Y.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Joe’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, Feb. 22 from 9-10 a.m., followed by his funeral service celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors by the U.S. Air Force at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
