WAKEFIELD — Robert L. Thompson, 78, of Wakefield died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 in Peabody. Mr. Thompson was born in Winthrop on November 27, 1939 and was the son of the late Donald L. and Emily (Provan) Thompson. He was raised in Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School, class of 1959.

He was the beloved husband of Beverly G. (Lynch) Thompson and the proud father of Alison L. Cizowski and her husband Joe of Wilmington. He was the loving grandfather of John Robert Cizowski, and the brother of the late Jean Collins and stepson of Marion (Dickeson) Thompson.

Bob was known by everyone in town as being a man who could do it all – he could make or fix anything – and for always helping others. This shined through in everything he did, including his service and devotion to the Wakefield Fire Department, a job he loved for 34 years. As much as he enjoyed his work, he was also at his happiest when hunting and fishing with his father and friends, woodworking, and spending time with his family – especially his daughter and grandson – and visiting Lee, New Hampshire. He could always be found at his favorite breakfast spot or the coffee shop every day without fail where his quick wit and sense of humor would be on full display.

His family would like to thank the many people that took the time to visit him, bring him coffee and talk during his various stays at rehabs and long-term care facilities. It meant so much to all of us.

A graveside service will be held at the Lee Hill Cemetery in Lee, New Hampshire on Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
