WAKEFIELD — The Cardinals won the Town Championship for the Senior League division of Wakefield Little League last week. The league was able to hold a season this summer with four teams comprised of 13-16-year-old players.

The Cards won the first two games of the best-of-three finals series. Game one was 6-1 and game two was 11-1.

The Cardinals finished the regular season at 11-3 and had a perfect postseason record, sweeping the Pirates in a best-of-three series.

Manager Michael Labieniec said that a tenacious and cohesive group of kids led by a squad of coaches with perfect chemistry fused the season.

“Each and every player contributed his or her best to the team this season with great pitching, solid defense and consistent, timely hitting,” said Labieniec.

In the end, the team’s success was attributed to resiliency and execution of the fundamentals and mechanics that the coaches emphasized all season.

On behalf of his coaching staff, Labieniec would like to thank Wakefield Little League, Senior League director Frank Lanzarone, WLL president Bryan Fabbri, the parents and all the kids for the opportunities provided in this unprecedented season.
