BOSTON — The Wakefield High School Dance Team Program recently attended the Universal Dance Association overnight camp at Emmanuel College.

At camp, each dancer learned three routines over the course of three days as well as attended team and individual technique classes. During the last day of camp, they performed in an evaluation.

Their hard work and dedication paid off and it showed at evaluation time. The team received an UDA Full Out Award. This award is given to the team with the best overall creative choreography changes and formations choices in their Team Performance.

THE WAKEFIELD HIGH Dance Team won multiple awards and continued to improve at the Universal Dance Association overnight camp at Emmanuel College. The Warriors earned a bid to compete in UDA’s National High School Dance Competition as well as a chance to perform at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida and a bid for the captains to perform in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular, also in Orlando. The team also earned the Superior Dance Award, which is based on the individual evaluation of each dancer on all three of their routines. The team earning this award is the direct result of each dancer on the team earning the highest level of recognition in all of their routines.

These accomplishments have earned them a bid to compete in UDA’s National High School Dance Competition as well as earned the team a bid to perform at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida and a bid for the captains to perform in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular in Orlando, Florida.

Each year at UDA camps around the country, dancers have an opportunity to learn additional choreography to be evaluated on and then possibly be awarded the All-American Award. This award earns them not only the special recognition but also the opportunity to perform in the New Year’s Eve Parade in London.

“As their coach, I am proud to announce that this year we have six All American’s on our team, seniors Juniors Michaela Hartz, Tara Kelley, Katherine Sullivan and Gwen Townshend and juniors Adriana Minasian and Emily Pudvah,” said WMHS dance head coach Candice Spencer. “I am very proud of the team and it is an honor to coach such a remarkable group of talented young women. Come see them perform at the upcoming football games and competitions.”
