BOSTON — For the first time in 42 years, the Boston Bruins are searching for a new National Anthem singer. 

Kevin Dougherty is up to the task. 

The Wakefield resident was one of 52 invited to audition at the Boston Garden. 

Dougherty, a United States Navy Veteran, was named the 2018 Distinguished Graduate by the American Military University where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Transportation and Logistics Management. The award recognizes graduates who have made extraordinary contributions to the nation and their community. 

Dougherty’s voice is well known at the Bedford VA where he is a voluntary services specialist and events coordinator. 

The Bruins are expected to announce their new National Anthem singer within the next week.
