BOSTON — Four former Warrior track and field standouts have done well for their respective college programs in recent weeks.

The IC4A Championship was held last weekend at Boston University. Aaron Lucci, Jackson Gallagher, Joe Hurton, and Ian Ritchie qualified based on strong seasons.

WAKEFIELD track and field alumni had an excellent winter season for their respective schools. Pictured from left to right is Jackson Gallagher (UMass Lowell), Aaron Lucci (Vermont), Ian Ritchie (Boston College) and Joseph Hurton (Providence).

Vermont senior Aaron Lucci ran the mile and finished the strategic race in a time of 4:15. It went out slow but Lucci really picked up the pace with an impressive 2:00 final half split. Lucci had a great senior season as he ran 4:11 earlier in the season, a personal best.

At the American East Conference Championship, Lucci anchored the Distance Medley Relay team to a second place finish, ran the 3000 meters in a time of 8:36 to place 22nd and anchored the 4×800 meter relay to a 6th place finish. Lucci will prepare for his final spring season of collegiate competition for the Catamounts.

Jackson Gallagher did not run his best race at IC4A, but one week prior he played a key role in UMass Lowell’s first American East Conference team championship title. Gallagher, a junior, placed 5th in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:53.22 to score valuable points. He then played a role in the 4×800, as the third leg on the winning team that helped put the Riverhawks within 1.5 points going into the final event.

Boston College junior Ian Ritchie ran a personal best time in the 800 meters at the IC4A Championship with a time of 1:52.66 and placed 17th. His season included a trip to the ACC Championship where he ran the mile (4:15) placing 28th.

Providence junior Joe Hurton ran a great leg of the Distance Medley Relay team that won the IC4A title for the Friars. Hurton ran the 400 meter leg in a personal best time of 49.85. It is the first time the Friars won the event since 2009. He was part of the 4×400 team that placed 6th at the Big East Championship.
