BOSTON — The Wakefield Memorial High School Dance Team Program recently attended the Universal Dance Association overnight camp at Emmanuel College.

At camp, each dancer learned three routines over the course of three days while also attending team and individual technique classes. During the last day of camp, they performed in an evaluation.

“Their hard work and dedication paid off and it showed at evaluation time,” said head coach Candice Spencer.

The team received a UDA Full Out Award. This award is given to the team with the best overall creative choreography changes and formation choices in their team performance.

The Warriors also earned the Superior Dance Award, which is based on the individual evaluation of each dancer on all three of their routines. The team earning this award is the direct result of each dancer earning the highest level of recognition in all of their routines.

These accomplishments have earned the Warriors a bid to compete in UDA’s National High School Dance Team Competition, a bid to perform at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida and the captains earned a bid to perform at the Varsity Spirit Spectacular at Walt Disney World.

Each year at UDA camps around the country, dancers have an opportunity to learn additional choreography to be evaluated on and then possibly be awarded the All American Award. This award earns them not only the special recognition but also the opportunity to perform in the New Year’s Day Parade in London or Rome.

“As their coach, I am proud to announce that this year we have seven All-Americans on our team,” said Spencer as seniors Hana Dixon, Vanessa Gebhard, Riley Porter, Adriana Minasian, Emily Pudvah, Sydney Sellers and Kira Strauss are All-Americans. “I am very proud of the team and it is an honor to coach such a remarkable group of talented young women.”

Fans can see the Warrior dance team perform at upcoming football games and competitions in the fall.
