WAKEFIELD — Icy road conditions from yesterday’s brief but intense storm caused a car to crash into a tree yesterday afternoon at about 3:15. Police said that a 2005 Ford Escape driven by a Saugus woman was heading east on Water Street when it skidded on some ice and hit a tree. No injuries were reported.

Police responded to a two-car crash at Main and Charles streets yesterday at about 4:15 p.m. According to police, a 2007 Mercedes driven by a West Newbury woman was heading north on Main Street and had signaled for a right turn on to Charles Street when it was hit from behind by a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by a Stoneham woman. There were no injuries.

At about 5:15 p.m., police went to the Shaw’s parking lot on Water Street on a report of a car break. Police said that pry marks were found on the passenger side door of a Toyota Rav4 that was making a delivery to the store. It did not appear that anything was stolen. Police plan to review security camera footage as part of their investigation.

Just before 6 p.m. yesterday a Colorado woman called police to report that while she was staying at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel on Audubon Road in January some of her jewelry may have been stolen. The woman stated that she had stayed at the hotel on Jan. 26 and after she flew home she realized that two of her rings and a pair of earrings were missing. The last place she remembered seeing them was while she was at the hotel.

Just before 7 p.m. last night, police said that a private plow contractor backed into a window of the Dutton Center on Main Street in Greenwood while plowing an adjacent lot.

The Fire Department responded to 9 calls yesterday, of which three were for medical aid.

The non medical calls included issues with accidental or faulty alarms and a house lockout.
